At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Acting Head of State of the Principality of Liechtenstein, H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois, will undertake a four-day State Visit to India from October 25 to 28, 2026. The Hereditary Prince is accompanied by his spouse, H.R.H. Hereditary Princess Sophie, alongside a high-level official delegation and top business leaders.
The mission represents Prince Alois’s second visit to India in 2026, following his participation in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026, building upon earlier engagements in 2010 and 2018 to consolidate bilateral trade, advanced technology, and investment frameworks.
1. High-Level Bilateral Talks & State Ceremonials
The official program includes delegation-level deliberations and highest-level constitutional engagements in New Delhi:
- Prime Ministerial Talks: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois will hold a bilateral meeting to review cooperation across trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges, while sharing views on key regional and international developments.
- Rashtrapati Bhavan Engagement: Prince Alois will meet Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour.
- Diplomatic Consultations: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will call on the Hereditary Prince to review multilateral and strategic cooperation.
2. Pillars of Strategic & Economic Cooperation
The state visit provides key institutional momentum to translate diplomatic goodwill into commercial partnerships across high-technology and capital-intensive domains:
Trade & EFTA Integration
- Leveraging the 2025 TEPA pact
- Tariff reduction & market access
- Capital investments from high-tech enterprises
Innovation & Deep-Tech
- Artificial Intelligence collaboration
- Precision engineering linkages
- Joint R&D and scientific partnerships
Finance & Industry
- Top industry leaders delegation
- Specialized financial services
- Cross-border institutional investment
3. The EFTA TEPA Framework as an Economic Engine
A key driver underpinning the state visit is the operationalization of the landmark trade pact:
The visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into bilateral economic engagements following the operationalization of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) in 2025. With Liechtenstein being a key EFTA member state possessing advanced industrial manufacturing and global private wealth management expertise, the agreement establishes clear pathways for technology transfer and sustained direct investments into India.
