Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has embarked on a crucial three-nation tour from June 15 to 19, 2025, visiting the Republic of Cyprus, Canada, and the Republic of Croatia. The visit underlines India’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties, reinforcing engagement with the European Union, and voicing the concerns and priorities of the Global South at key international platforms.
Strengthening Mediterranean Ties: Cyprus (June 15–16)
At the invitation of President H.E. Nikos Christodoulides, Prime Minister Modi's official visit to the Republic of Cyprus marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over two decades. During the visit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Christodoulides and engage with business leaders in Limassol.
India and Cyprus Forge Deeper Economic Ties Through High-Level Business RoundtableIn his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted Cyprus as “a close friend and an important partner in the Mediterranean region and the EU,” and emphasized the scope to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, security, technology, and cultural exchange.
Global Diplomacy at G7 Summit: Canada (June 16–17)
Following his visit to Cyprus, the Prime Minister will travel to Kananaskis, Canada to participate in the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister H.E. Mark Carney. This will be PM Modi's sixth consecutive appearance at the prestigious forum.
At the Summit, he will join leaders from G7 countries, outreach nations, and heads of international organizations to discuss pressing global issues including energy security, emerging technologies, the AI-energy nexus, and quantum innovation. The summit also offers an opportunity for key bilateral meetings on the sidelines, furthering India’s diplomatic outreach.
PM Modi emphasized that the G7 platform “provides space for exchange of views on pressing global issues and the priorities of the Global South.”
Historic First Visit to Croatia (June 18)
In the final leg of his tour, PM Modi will visit the Republic of Croatia at the invitation of Prime Minister H.E. Andrej Plenković. This marks the first-ever official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia—a significant milestone in Indo-Croatian relations.
During the visit, PM Modi will hold high-level discussions with Prime Minister Plenković and meet with President H.E. Zoran Milanović. The visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in sectors such as trade, education, culture, and technology.
Prime Minister Modi also underscored the historical and cultural connections between the two nations, adding that the visit aims to “open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.”
A Broader Message: Global Cooperation and Counterterrorism
Across all three destinations, PM Modi aims to reinforce India's global partnerships, promote economic and technological cooperation, and express gratitude to partner nations for their consistent support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism. The tour is also an opportunity to build international consensus on confronting terrorism in all its forms.
