Prime Minister Modi to Visit France and U.S. for Key Diplomatic Engagements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on an official visit to France and the United States from February 10-13, 2025, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump, respectively. The visit aims to strengthen India's strategic partnerships and enhance cooperation in technology, trade, and defense.

Visit to France (February 10-12, 2025)

PM Modi’s visit to France coincides with the AI Action Summit in Paris, where he will co-chair the event alongside President Macron. The summit will address key global concerns related to the governance, ethical deployment, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI). This marks the third such high-level AI summit, following previous meetings in the UK (2023) and South Korea (2024). A leaders’ declaration is expected to be adopted at the conclusion of the summit.

In addition to the AI summit, PM Modi and President Macron will engage in bilateral discussions covering trade, defense, space, and nuclear energy cooperation. The leaders will also address the India-France CEOs Forum to strengthen business and investment ties.

The visit extends beyond Paris, with both leaders traveling to Marseille. Key highlights of this segment include:

Visit to Mazargues War Cemetery: Paying tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I.

Inauguration of Indian Consulate in Marseille: Strengthening consular services for Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin in southern France.

Tour of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in Cadarache: Showcasing India’s role in international nuclear fusion research.

India and France recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their strategic partnership, which continues to expand into emerging sectors such as AI, renewable energy, and maritime security.

Visit to the United States (February 12-13, 2025)

Following his engagements in France, PM Modi will travel to Washington, D.C., marking his first visit to the U.S. since the re-election of President Donald Trump. The visit underscores the strong bipartisan support for India-U.S. relations and aims to advance bilateral cooperation in trade, defense, technology, and security.

Key elements of the visit include:

Bilateral meeting with President Trump: Discussions on strategic collaboration, defense partnerships, counterterrorism, and Indo-Pacific security.

Meetings with senior U.S. administration officials: Strengthening diplomatic and security ties.

Engagement with business leaders and Indian diaspora: Highlighting economic opportunities and fostering stronger people-to-people connections.

India-U.S. relations have witnessed significant growth, with over 350,000 Indian students studying in U.S. institutions and a 5.4 million-strong Indian community playing a vital role in deepening cultural and economic ties. The visit is expected to result in a joint statement outlining the future roadmap of the India-U.S. partnership.

Prime Minister Modi’s engagements in France and the United States are expected to further enhance India’s global standing, foster technological collaborations, and bolster international strategic partnerships.
