Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his official visit to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Austria on July 8, 2024, marking the start of a three-day diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.

On his agenda is the 22nd Annual India-Russia Summit, where he will meet with President Vladimir Putin. "I look forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing perspectives on various regional and global issues. We seek to play a supportive role for a peaceful and stable region," Modi stated ahead of his departure. He also expressed his eagerness to interact with the vibrant Indian community in Russia.

Upon his arrival in Moscow at 6:04 PM, Modi expressed his enthusiasm for deepening the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between India and Russia, particularly in innovative areas of cooperation. "Stronger ties between our nations will greatly benefit our people," Modi posted on social media platform X.

Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community in Moscow, which he acknowledged with gratitude. "A memorable welcome in Moscow! I thank the Indian community for their affection," he posted.


In the evening, Modi met with President Vladimir Putin at Novo-Ogaryovo. "Gratitude to President Putin for hosting me... Looking forward to our talks tomorrow, which will surely go a long way in further cementing the bonds of friendship between India and Russia," Modi posted.

Over the next three days, Modi's visit aims to fortify longstanding ties with Russia and Austria. "These visits will be a wonderful opportunity to deepen ties with these nations, with whom India has a time-tested friendship," Modi stated on X. He also expressed anticipation for interacting with the Indian community in both countries.

Following his time in Russia, Modi will travel to Austria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over 40 years. He is scheduled to meet President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

"Austria is our steadfast and reliable partner, and we share the ideals of democracy and pluralism," Modi said in his departure statement. He aims to elevate the partnership to new heights, focusing on innovation, technology, and sustainable development.

Modi will also address business leaders from both India and Austria, exploring mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities. Additionally, he looks forward to interacting with the Indian community in Austria, which he praised for their professionalism and conduct.
