Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar pays tribute at Funeral of Iran’s President Raisi

In a solemn gesture of solidarity, Vice-President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar traveled to the Islamic Republic of Iran on May 22, 2024. His visit was to attend an official ceremony paying condolences for the tragic loss of H.E. President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, H.E. Foreign Minister Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other Iranian officials. The unfortunate helicopter crash on May 19, 2024, had claimed their lives.

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had expressed their heartfelt condolences to the Iranian government and its people. On May 21, 2024, India observed a national day of mourning in honor of those who perished in the tragic accident.

In a poignant display of solidarity, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Iran. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had also paid a visit to the Iranian embassy in New Delhi on Tuesday, expressing India's profound grief. He eloquently described the late Iranian leaders as "friends of India" who played a pivotal role in fortifying the India-Iran relationship.

Furthermore, a condolence book had been opened at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, providing an avenue for individuals to honor the memory of the late President, Foreign Minister, and other officials. On May 21, India observed a national day of mourning, paying tribute to these esteemed Iranian leaders.
