Ceremonial Reception Accorded to Kenyan President William Ruto at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Kenyan President William Ruto received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending the formal reception. The welcoming committee included key union ministers such as S Jaishankar (External Affairs), Sarbananda Sonowal (Ports, Shipping, and Waterways), and Kiren Rijiju (Earth Sciences). President Murmu also engaged with the Kenyan delegation headed by President Ruto.

Ruto's visit to New Delhi commenced on Monday as part of a state visit, following an invitation from President Murmu. Notably, this marks Kenya's first presidential visit to India in over six years. A state banquet hosted by President Murmu in honor of President Ruto is scheduled for this evening.

The agenda for President Ruto's visit includes in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Modi. Accompanied by a high-level official delegation, Ruto is set to participate in a business and investment event in the national capital.

Expressing the enduring friendship between India and Kenya, President Ruto highlighted diplomatic engagements dating back to 1948. Emphasizing areas of collaboration, he stated, “We're looking at how we can have a partnership in the space of rural development, especially agriculture…and we will also be signing an agreement on the digital space.”

Acknowledging India's significant contributions, Ruto expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring Africa's permanent membership in the G20 during his presidency. Further discussions with Prime Minister Modi on this matter are anticipated during the visit, as articulated by the Kenyan President in an interview with ANI.
