According to Chinese state media, President Xi Jinping emphasized on Wednesday China's willingness to collaborate with the United States while managing their differences, working together to tackle global challenges. Xi's message was conveyed in a letter during the annual dinner of the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York.

Xi stressed the importance of establishing the "right" way for the United States and China to interact, emphasizing its critical significance for the global community. He advocated for stable bilateral relations based on principles such as mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

This statement comes ahead of an upcoming visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Washington later this week, marking a high-level, in-person engagement before the anticipated meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Xi at the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco. During the summer, several top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, met with their Chinese counterparts in Beijing.

Washington's primary objective has been to ensure that the intense competition and disagreements between the world's two largest economies, covering issues ranging from trade to Taiwan and the South China Sea, do not escalate into conflict. Chinese observers anticipate that Wang's visit could pave the way for a potential meeting between the two leaders, provided that Washington demonstrates concrete efforts to address Beijing's concerns and sincerity, as stated by China's state-controlled Global Times in a commentary.
