In the midst of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, the Indian government has initiated "Ope
ration Ajay" to bring back Indian nationals from Israel and Palestine. Starting from Thursday, October 12, this operation will employ specially chartered flights, with the Navy on standby if necessary, as reported by The Indian Express. Approximately 18,000 Indians are currently residing in Israel, along with 17 in Palestine.



External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar officially announced the launch of Operation Ajay in a post on X on Wednesday, emphasizing the government's dedication to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.

What is Operation Ajay?

Operation Ajay involves the dispatch of special chartered flights to repatriate Indian citizens from Israel and Palestine. If required, Indian Navy ships may also be deployed for this purpose. The Indian Embassy in Israel communicated with the first group of registered Indian citizens for their special flight on Thursday. Subsequent flights will be organized for other registered individuals.

- 18,000 Indians in Israel

Of the approximately 18,000 Indians in Israel, a significant portion serves as caregivers. The Indian community also includes around 1,000 students, several IT professionals, and diamond traders. Consul General of Israel to Midwest India, Kobbi Shoshani, expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of these Indian nationals to the Israeli economy and their role in Israeli families, emphasizing the Israeli government's support for "Operation Ajay."

- 17 Indians in Palestine

Seventeen Indians are currently stranded in Palestine, including aid workers and business-related visitors. The Representative Office of India to the State of Palestine, Ramallah, has shared an emergency helpline number to assist Indians in Palestine during this challenging time.
