According to sources, Blinken urged the Qatari government to reduce the intensity of Al Jazeera's coverage due to its perceived anti-Israel incitement. He conveyed these concerns during a meeting with American Jewish community leaders, highlighting the Biden administration's worry that Al Jazeera's portrayal of the Gaza war could escalate tensions in the region.

During a joint press briefing with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Doha on October 13, Blinken emphasized that there could be no "business as usual with Hamas." He informed the American Jewish leaders that he had requested the Qatari government to alter its public stance toward Hamas, using toning down Al Jazeera's coverage of the Gaza conflict as an example of the steps Qatar could take.
